Hi there. I'm Ryan. And welcome to my Let's Write Stories blog. Here, I write short stories for my own enjoyment and anyone out there who is interested in reading them. What I'm most excited about is creating a place on the Internet where anyone can write their own short stories and actually have someone, somewhere, read and enjoy them. I encourage anyone reading this to submit their short stories to me. The How To guidelines are provided in the Submit Your Story page.
In college, many of my English Professors recommended I take up creative writing. Some even suggested I consider a career in teaching English and publishing my work. While my dream is to become a special education teacher, I can't deny my love and passion for writing and reading. Of course, with school and work and all of life's little surprises, I can't write stories all the time.
This is where the rest of you come in. I'll be posting my own stories when I have the time. However, as I said, I'm excited about broadening my horizons; I would love the opportunity to read stories from the rest of you. Some of you may be professional writers. Others may be undiscovered. Some of you may be thinking about starting a writing career. And some of you may be just like me, writing not so much because it's just a "hobby" but something you love to do. Whether you're a professional or not is irrelevant. If you have a story, I want to read it. And I'm sure I'm not the only one.
What can this blog do for you? As I said, some may be new and some may be experienced. Not only is writing good for you as it's an exceptional way to express yourself and work the mind, but it's something you can enjoy. It's something you create, something no one else has done before. With this blog you can make a name for yourself. People from all over can read your stories. If they like your work, they'll be sure to read more stories. And if you're already a published writer or you're trying to become one, this is a great way to get some exposure.
A scenario: Perhaps you start writing for this blog and decide you like it so much, you go on to write a whole story. Let's take it a step further. Maybe you have the fortitude to finish the novel, edit it, or have it edited, and publish it on something like Amazon Kindle. Or maybe your book goes to print. Half the battle is getting your name out there. Writing for blogs or just about anywhere where people can see and read it can help you tremendously in capturing an audience.
This blog is meant to be a fun and nurturing experience. Sadly, writing is becoming a lost art and science. Less and less people are taking the time to write and read. But it doesn't have to be this way. I challenge you to write. Even if it's just something small and personal. And don't be afraid to take a chance. Let's create a constructive, supportive community on this blog. If you read something you like, let the author know. Kind words go a long way. Let's help each other grow. Provide constructive criticism. Offer advice and expertise. Talk to each other for crying out loud. That's what this blog is all about: Writing stories, reading other people's work, and discussion.
I believe anyone can write if they so choose. You may not know it, but you may have the makings of brilliance nestled somewhere deep in the recesses of that beautiful mind of yours. So tap into it. Give it a try. Exercise that muscle and don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Stories can have a profound impact on people's lives, even change them for the better. So stop with the What If's and the Coulda Woulda Shoulda and just write. Most importantly, have fun with it. I hope you enjoy my short stories and I look forward to reading and sharing all of yours.
Kind regards,
-Ryan
